Vinca
Two ground covers that perform wonderfully in the shade garden are various varieties of both Vinca minor and major. Both are considered as being vines and especially in the case of minor we would have to consider it being extremely refined. V. major though not as tame as minor is still easy to maintain and in the warmer cold hardy zones such as 6B display very good winter color. V. minor remains evergreen considerably farther north. Depending on where you live Vinca minor and major varieties have performed well in full sun, partial and full shade. The names minor and major refer to the mature foliage size. When selecting Vinca minor as your ground cover of choice we suggest that you consider the following cultivars: | CULTIVAR | FOLIAGE COLOR | FLOWER | ZONE | | Herbacea | Green | Blue | 4 | | Minor | Glossy Green | Blue | 4 | | Alba | Green | White | 4 | | Altropurpurea | Green | Red | 4 | | Azurea Flore Pleno | Green | Double Blue | 4 | | Blue & Gold | Green and Gold | Blue | 4 | | Golden Bowles | Green and Yellow | Blue | 4 | | Honeydew | Chartreuse | Pale Blue | 4 | | Illumination | Green and Yellow | Blue | 4 | | La Grave | Dark Glossy Green | Deep Blue | 4 | | Multiplex | Green | Rosy-Wine | 4 | | Ralph Shugert | Green and White | Blue | 4 | | Sterling Silver | Green and White | Blue | 4 | | Valley Glow | Green and Gold | White | 4 |
