When discussing the various types of flowers in the entire plant kingdom it becomes a project of enormous proportions.
Perhaps it would take even a very long lifetime of diligent work to come close to a modest level of only partial completion.
I have often smiled in the past when looking at books with titles such as the complete encyclopedia of plants.
Or how about a certain PhD. that produces one entitled the all encompassing manual of woody ornamentals.
I would offer up for thought that such works are all but impossible to produce and certainly the titles should be changed.
We believe that instead of going into a long discussion of defining plants by their family characteristics we chose to group them by their most common use in the perennial garden.
The following links contain plant lists found throughout our site which represent several types of flowers. We are defining the type by the intended use of the plant, such as Rock Garden Plants.
