Texas Wildflowers

The spring of 1988 was when I made my first trip to the state of Texas to view some of the great work that had been accomplished in their roadside beautification projects; namely the use of Texas wildflowers on stretches of highway that previously had been visually boring.

Berlandiera lyrata - Chocolate Flower

What greeted me were vast plantings of Indian Paintbrush and Texas Bluebonnets that made the roadsides look like a scene from Alice in Wonderland.

Yes. Texas you really have painted your landscape in a grand and beautiful way.

I can only wish that my state of Oklahoma would take a look at just two of the many projects that Texas has done in a quality way.

First of all Texas has excellent rest areas with restrooms and drop dead gorgeous wildflower plantings.
