This family of excellent woody ornamentals has found favor with garden enthusiasts almost everywhere.
I believe that this is due to the following facts:
Ground cover varieties available from 6 to 8 inches to 18 to 24 inches tall.
Other shrub varieties growing up to 6 feet in height.
Flower colors of white, pink, rose-pink and rose-red.
Foliage colors in shades of creamy-yellow, yellow, golden and various greens.
Extremely hardy.
A proven and dependable performer for the landscape.
Very easy to grow.
At this time our landscape is rather limited due to tornado damage and two unbelievable devastating ice storms all of which occurred within the past two years.
No, mother nature was not very kind to us, but the plants that managed to survive her onslaught have become favorites of mine.
For example, in one rather small bed, I have three Golden Elf Spirea ground covers planted which mature at 6 to 8 inches in height.
They were planted 5 or 6 years ago and have simply thrived regardless of the weather conditions.
Many gardeners are familiar with one of the old time favorite spireas which is named Bridal Veil. Its flowers are white and single in structure but it is a prolific spring bloomer.
There is a double flowering white variety which is called, what else but, Double Flowering Bridal Veil.
Be sure to try Spirea Golden Elf and Goldmound as these are truly special cultivars of a very special family.
