Shade Plants

Shade plants can vary a great deal from one part of the United States to another in that the cultivar that you place in full sun in Minnesota may require a shady location in Florida.

If you live in the Sunbelt region and have purchased a plant that will take full sun according to the label it would be wise to offer it at least some protection from the more intense southern sunshine.

Plant labels certainly can be misleading as their information is based on a nation wide average and almost never do they relate directly to your location.

The following are considered shade lovers but you may find if you live in any of the northern states that they will do quite well when exposed to some sun.

Experiment with your varieties until you find the perfect location for them and they will reward you by living up to their full potential.
