Rose Plants

Rose plants (Rosa) makes up a group of beautiful flowering woody ornamentals.

Known as the "Queen of all Garden Flowers" many hobbyists struggle with the amount of care required by this beauty.

Going back in time to the early sixties is when I planted my very first Rose selections and the blooms on the varieties that I selected were outstanding in size, color and fragrance.

Those early plantings took place in a part of the country where roses like Hybrid Teas, Floribundas, and Grandifloras tend to thrive much better and with far less care than required where we now live in eastern Oklahoma.

Most home gardening enthusiasts have less time today what with our fast paced live styles and find it difficult to provide the necessary amount of care that Roses demand.

Am I indicating that you should not plant members of this family where you live? No not at all!

What I am about to suggest is that you enjoy only the selections that do well where you reside.

Start investigating what varieties to use by checking with your local county extension agent or visiting with a local experienced gardener.

As for me, I choose to remember those early days of success with Hybrid Tea Roses.

However Heirloom Forms, otherwise known as Antique Roses, do better with far less care where I live.

This is the rose that I will plant and enjoy as frustration can sometimes be uncomfortable to deal with.
