Sooner or later you probably will want to add annual flowers to your landscape even if you have extensive plantings of ornamental perennial flowers.
This probably will be due to the fact that you are sure to discover the tremendous flower power of annuals.
Some perennials will bloom almost continually but most will not whereas most annuals are heavy repeat bloomers.
Before planting annual flowers, you will need to prepare the bed.
If your are establishing on area with turf grass, a quick and easy way to create the bed is to smother the lawn with cardboard, newspaper etc in the previous fall.
By spring the ground will be ready to till with fresh composted soil from the decayed material.
In either case, you must prepare the planting bed by tilling and adding compost if necessary and rake it level and smooth.
You can now broadcast or plant in rows.
Follow the seed packet directions regarding planting depth, usually twice the diameter of the seed.
The final step in planting the seeds is to water the newly planted seeds with a fine or mist spray hose attachment.
Once the seeds have germinated, the seedlings must be thinned out, allowing the strongest seedlings to flourish in your annual garden.
