Plant Flower Bulbs

Why should we as gardeners plant flower bulbs?

That’s a good question that deserves an equally decent answer.

I would answer the aforementioned question by stating that one can not grow, without the use of bulbs, the vast assortment of both foliage and flowering plants that are available in this form.

Gladiolus 'Flavo Safari'

Yes I am aware that some of the more experienced gardeners would say that some varieties are available in the form of seed which is true.

However, in most cases where seed is used rather than bulbs, the wait for flowering would be long and painful.

Ornamental landscaping is just not complete without the wide use of the various bulbs, corms, tubers and rhizomes that many of us lump together and simply call bulbs.

After all, most are inexpensive and readily available at both local and national marketplaces.

So consider with the arrival of spring this year planting some elephant ear and fancy leaf caladiums, along with gladiolus, dahlias and cap it off with a nice assortment of dependable cannas.

When the month of October arrives it is time to make your selections from the spring flowering bulbs which include but are not limited to tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and crocus.

When spring arrives and you see all the color in your garden, you will be glad that you took time the previous fall to install these bulbs.
