Perennial Grasses

Perennial grasses can be used as ornamentals or as ground covers in landscape beds.

The ground cover reference here is not used to indicate a turf or lawn grass variety but rather, as mentioned above, to be incorporated into the landscape bed.

Selections are available with red, blue, yellow, green and various combinations of variegated colored foliage.

You can choose from forms growing one inch in height to well over twelve feet.

So simply decide on foliage color, mature height, and proper exposure then be sure that your chosen varieties fall within your cold hardiness zone.

Grasses are very much at home and add to the atmosphere when placed in close relationship to water and bog gardens.

Some species can even be planted in the water garden and seem to thrive better there than if placed in soil.

We suggest that you install your grass plants in individual containers and then place the potted plants in four to six inches of water.
