Natural Landscaping

Natural landscaping in its purest form is simply moving into a home nestled in a woodland or other natural setting and doing zero additional landscaping.

I know what you are thinking that your home owners association would never allow you to pull it off. The trick is to build and live where you do not have a home owners association to worry about.

That is exactly what my uncle did in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. He purchased 2,700 acres of pristine wilderness then built his home high on a cliff overlooking a beautiful mountain stream.

Uncle never planted additional trees or shrubs but his wife did enjoy the pleasures of flower gardening. The Creators unique touch was more than enough to provide them with all the beautiful landscaping that they desired.

Central Park in New York when the concept was first developed was designed as a countryside vista which would allow all that visited to escape from the fast pace of city life.

The original native landscape design was entitled the Greenward Plan as conceived by the combined efforts of park superintendent, Frederick Law Olmsted and architect, Calvert Vaux. Construction began in 1857 on 840 rocky, swampy acres and the cost when completed was for the time an incredible ten million dollars.

This site now referred as Central Park has the honor of being the first urban landscaped park in the United States. The park still maintains some of the original theme of natural landscaping but much has disappeared and is being used for playgrounds and other uses.

Native landscaping can also indicate a desire to use indigenous plants in a well thought out design.

You will want to visit with a practicing horticulture consultant in your area to provide you with a list of the most desirable natives for your environment. We believe that your money would be well spent in hiring a designer to develop a plan with a list of construction materials and last but not least a quote.
