Koi ponds and gardens if one plans well can be an outstanding addition to any landscape. Visitors are always drawn first to this type of feature and I certainly must admit that this is true of me as well.
When in the planning stage for a water garden it is wise to think big. Yes that is correct the larger the better and this is especially true if you are planning on introducing koi to your pond.
Remember koi can become rather large in size so even with a good sized pool you will need to be very careful so as not to overstock this beautiful fish.
In order for you to have a better understanding of the koi let’s take a look at the very name itself which translates from its’ Japanese origins to English as simply meaning carp.
Carp as many of you know can reach lengths of over four and one half feet and weigh seventy five pounds or more.
Now I am not saying that your fish are going to grow to this gigantic size as their growth will be restricted by the body of water that they live in. However, please provide a sizeable garden pond for them and DO NOT overstock as some collectors of koi are prone to do.
