Garden water falls probably add more to a water garden than any other single feature.
The only addition that makes this even better is that of a small stream leading from the waterfall basin to a reservoir pool.
The lower pool can be small or quite sizable depending on your available space and budget.
Waterfalls can be constructed by simply using a biofalls which is a combination of a filter and a structure or frame to build your falls from.
This is the most foolproof method to build a sturdy and functional waterfall especially for the beginner.
After attaining experience and required skill you will be able to freeform a waterfall using only rock and hardscape materials.
Please don’t try to use cement as the liner for your pond, stream or waterfalls as sooner or later concrete will do what concrete always does which is crack and hard to find leaks will develop.
If you insist on using concrete then place a heavy duty Firestone liner down first. Then add an inch or two of sand on top of the liner then go ahead if you must and add the concrete.
What I really have against the use of concrete is that it looks so very unnatural especially if you fail to add additional numerous specimen rocks.
Yes if using a heavy duty liner only, you would still need to add rock.
What we are suggesting is to forget the concrete and use the money that you have saved for other pool and waterfall features.
Consider adding more than one waterfall let’s say perhaps three as this will dramatically improve the drama of your pool.
Add unique features in the water garden landscape in uneven numbers just as you should in flower arranging.
Now sit back and enjoy what you have created and relax as you can in no other way than to the sound of falling water.
