Flower Garden

A flower garden can and does mean many different concepts to each of us.

It is possible that one could envision a rose or flowering shrub garden but here we will deal with the perennial garden.

First of all it is necessary to determine if shade or sun plants are what we desire to grow. Whatever exposure is chosen one can rest assured that beautiful cultivars are available that should do well for you.

Decide on a theme that you find interesting. You may want a garden featuring your favorite colors or perhaps a garden with various plants blooming all in the same color would appeal to you.

An all white garden in a rather dark and shady environment really brightens the area and ones mood as well.

Consider using plants that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. You may even want to research required or favored food or host plants for various butterfly caterpillars. There is no reason why you can not provide a home as well as a food source for these choice creatures.

In planning your garden I would suggest that you add at least a few annuals for their shear flower power. Most annuals tend to bloom all through the growing season whereas most ornamental perennials have a shorter blooming period.

Plan your perennial garden by researching the flowering periods of each of your selections and choose wisely so that something will be in bloom from early in the season to late fall.

Please follow the planting instructions that we have provided for you under the heading of transplanting.
