Fall flower bulbs are to be planted in most cases during spring and will be in flower during the beautiful fall season.
Yes there are other fall flowers which provide a great deal of color such as garden mums, asters, pansies and violas just to mention a few but we would like to encourage you to plant varieties that flower from bulbs as they are unique.
Prepare your flower bed for best results as follows:
Number one on the list, as always, is to have your soil tested by a good private laboratory.
Select a site for your new flower bed and treat unwanted vegetation with Round Up.
After all existing plants have turned brown and dried up simply rake them out of the proposed bed.
Turn or till the soil to a depth of ten inches.
Spread compost to a depth of four to six inches on the surface.
Apply all products as recommended by the laboratory that tested your soil.
Turn or till the compost and other products that you have added into the soil.
Now you are ready to plant. Be sure to follow all instructions in regards to required depth and spacing.
