Numerous colors are available with flower stalks ranging in height from as little as ten to twelve inches on some dwarf varieties to five feet plus on the standards.
With all that the various delphiniums have going for them, we need to inform you that they are not very tolerant of intense heat. Delphiniums tend to fair rather poorly in the Sunbelt regions of the United States.
Even with this warning I would still plant a few in the coolest areas in my landscape.
For example, perhaps if planted where they have an east exposure,or maybe under a small tree where they will receive filtered light, you may be pleasantly surprised.
However, if results are disappointing, you surely should have good results with another plant that blooms on tall flower spikes or stalks which is none other than the dependable hollyhock.
Hollyhocks come in numerous colors such as:
copper
maroon
pink
red
rose
scarlet
white
yellow
Depending on variety flowers may be single or double with flower stalks up to six to six and a half feet in height
