Coreopsis

Coreopsis or as it is known by its common name of Tickseed is a rather easy perennial to grow.

You will find that it is not overly picky in regards to soil conditions with the exception that you would not want to plant in an area with poor drainage.

Selections are available that mature at heights from twelve to thirty six inches with colors ranging from: Coreopsis rosea - Tickseed

  • orange
  • golden yellow
  • clear yellow
  • pink
  • rose-red
  • ruby red
  • several bicolors

One variety aptly named Tequila Sunrise has dark green foliage variegated with cream and yellow that turns deep rich mahogany during the fall with golden-yellow flowers.

If you are going to have a problem growing Tickseed it probably will be with Thread Leaf varieties as they seem not to be quite as forgiving as the broad leaf forms.

However, please do not let this keep you from trying these Thread Leaf cultivars as many of you will have great success with them.
